Wooden Working Padlock #8
This is a completely wooden, Working Padlock, and is #8 in a series, all different. Overall height is 8 inches, body is 4-1/2" wide by 2 inches deep and 3-3/4 inches high.  A quarter turn of the key moves aside the wood springs inside, releasing the shackle to lift and rotate.  The shackle is Poplar, top body layer is Bocote, then White Pine, White Oak, Padauk and a Walnut bottom.  The key insert is also Padauk.  Hand made key is Bocote.  The Walnut is taken from a local tree cut down 5 or 6 years ago and has been sitting in the barn waiting for the right project.  I chose this piece for it's character, rather than the more common solid brown Walnut coloring.  A crystalline wax polish is applied last and hand rubbed to a clear durable finish.
